You can share the Power BI reports to the Slack channel (either public or private) right from the Slack admin area without switching to a Power BI account.

Step by step Guide

Connect Account
First Step

Connect your Power BI account

  • Install the plugin from Slack App Directory

  • Sign in to Power BI using Home tab or command /pbi-sign-in. Use your Power BI credentials

  • You can disconnect your Power BI account anytime, just go to “Disconnect Power BI account” and confirm you want to disconnect this. You won’t be able to share and receive reports unless the account connected again

Step Two

Share Power BI report to Slack channel

  • Invite Power BI Integration bot to public or private channel

  • Go to Power BI integration in Apps and choose "Share a report"

  • Choose a report, pages and channel from drop-down lists

  • Click Ok

Apply Filter
Step Three

Apply filters before sharing a report

  • Repeat steps for sharing a report but before leaving the form, tick the checkbox "Apply filter"

  • You can now choose filters like table, column names and values

  • Beside basic filters, you can utilize advanced filters which are in the bottom of filter form

    Please note: you should copy table, column and other parameters names from Power BI. so in the filter form they will be named accordingly

  • Anytime you fill out the filter form you can save it for further usage in case you need to apply the same filters each time

  • You can update or delete filters in “Manage filters” section or through the command /pbi-manage-filters

Step Four

Schedule recurring report

  • Invite Power BI Integration bot to a public or private channel

  • Go to the “Schedule report” section or through the command /pbi-schedule-report

  • Choose report, pages and channel, then specify periodicity and time of the report

  • You can stop, resume or delete scheduled reports in the "Manage scheduled reports" section

Create and manage alerts

  • Go to "Create an alert" section or through the command /pbi-manage-scheduled-reports

  • Choose report and channel, then specify the visual title, condition, value and frequency of alerts

  • You can stop, resume or delete alerts using the "Manage alerts" button or through the command /pbi-manage-alerts
